![]() ![]() This Ibanez guitar is in great original shape, minus a couple attachments. Headstock and fingerboard are bound with cream binding. Ibanez calls this finish “Transparent Lavender Flat Flame”.ĭeluxe Shark Tooth inlay patterns on the rosewood fingerboard. The pairing of Maple and Walnut is tastefully stained with a transparent midnight blue, showing the grain figure. Here is one of my RGT42FM in action.Beautiful flamed Maple top and Maple/Walnut neck-through construction. I’ve had 3 of them and they are beautiful guitars made between 20. If you want the red FM variety, which just addes a red flamed maple top, thse are a bit harder to find. Also, the DX was made for 5 years in a row and are not hard to find at all! These are very fine guitars for the money. Those can be had in several colors, feature the same build and specs and the only real difference is the maple fingerboard. Of course, you can find plenty of RGT42DX variety of this guitar. Want an Ibby that plays like a much nicer instrument but still is very inexpensive to buy? Then start hunting for an RGT42 whether it be the FM (Flamed Maple) or the MDX (Maple Fingerboard with shark Tooth Inlays). After reading this, you are now in on the secret. ![]() Not a tone of these were made, and not that many people know about them. It’s hard to find a guitar with these specs, that plays this well, for anywhere near this price. You simply can’t beat the value on these. ![]() It had many of the features that much pricier Ibanez guitars had, but shaved money off the price by using cheaper pickups and by being built in the same places where cheaper Ibbys were built.Īfter owning several of these I can honestly say they are GREAT guitars. The least expensive way to get you in to a neck through. A NON MIJ ibby that has many of the same features that MIJ ibbys, of the higher end variety of MIJ Ibbys, often had. So then, what we have is something of a rare bird. So much so that the pups in my unit were evidently replaced as well. In honestly, they are very very bad pickups and are usually replaced. These were the INF pups and are generally considered to be simply awful. The only bit that was really “cheap” was the pickups. This one also gets MAHOGANY WINGS to go with it’s 5 PIECE MAPLE WALNUT NECK!!! 5 Piece Maple / Walnut necks were also not found often on non MIJ guitars of this era. It’s one of the first NON PRESTIGE Ibbys to get the NECK THROUGH BODY treatment which was reserved for some of the more pricey MIJ ibbys. Yet, this Axe, was one of those, that, when asked about, gets a very positive response. However, I’m talking about an axe that was made for one year only back in 2009, back when non MIJ Ibbys were just not very good in general. These axes are no longer just the cheapy starter Ibbys of years ago. In recent years, some of the non MIJ Ibbys have really come a long way and even added things like FISHMAN PICKUPS and MULTI SCALE NECKS and BURL TOPS. Some of these non MIJ ibbys are fine instruments indeed and many players love the the world over.Īs a bit of an “Ibby Cork Sniffer”, I find myself feeling the same way about Ibbys made elsewhere. ![]() Not to say that some of these are not fine instruments. On the other hand, Ibbys made in Indonesia, and Korea, have always been a little, well “suspect”. It’s been like this since the dawn of time. In short, truly great Ibbys are only made in one place, Japan.Īny Ibanez made in Japan can be expected to be pretty darn spiff straight away. Sadly, it's one that is held as a core truth by countless Ibby fans all over the world and by yours truly. As any Ibanez fan can tell you, good Ibbys are NOT made in any country other than JAPAN. For those not aware, and INDO means it's made in INDONESIA. So let me break down why I love this thing so much. She's going to be put in to the ground with me when I go along with my Golden Era RG5. This is quite simply the best $500 worth of ibanez guitar that money can currently buy imho. Even the gun metal grey ones that are far more common can cost more than this one did. I've seen others in good shape go for nearly double that much. I've only EVER found one with a maple fret board as they only made them like that for a single year then never again.īest of all, I scored this for $500. I've scored 4 of these over the years in various forms of RGT42. I found this guitar ages ago and wanted one ever since. Bits that would cost a pretty penny no matter what the builder. But, she's got a NECK THROUGH body construction, she is made of MAHOGANY, and she has a MAPLEFINGERBOARD. Finally!!! After having lost this same model nearly half a decade ago, I've found her again. ![]()
